Diocesan Administrator, Fr Francis Lau, who had earlier given permission to an alleged seer to speak with Catholics here, has now withdrawn his permission. Fr Lau told CN on Jan 22 that he had written a fax to the Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore, Archbishop Adriano Bernardini, asking for the stand of the Church regarding Mrs Vassula Ryden, a Greek Orthodox believed to be living in Switzerland. Mrs Ryden claims to have received heavenly revelations. CN understands that some Catholics here have made plans for her to speak here in March.
Archbishop Bernardini has faxed the Vatican's Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith's notification on Mrs Ryden to Fr Lau in which it warned of basic elements in her alleged messages that "must be considered negative in the light of Catholic doctrine" as well as a request to bishops "that no opportunity may be provided in their Dioceses for the dissemination of her ideas".
Fr Lau told CN: "In view of this situation, although I have given my permission for Vassula Ryden to speak to Catholics, I now withdraw the permission in view of the reply given by the Apostolic Nuncio."
