IT WAS an evening of prayer, fun and laughter at the NUS Catholic Students' Society's 50th anniversary bash on the evening of Dec 17.

Some 200 Catholic NUS undergraduates and graduates attended the event which began with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Gregory Yong and Catholic Students' Society (CSS) chaplains Frs Nicholas Chia and John Bosco Pereira. The anniversary dinner, entitled The Spirited Years, was later held in CHIJMES Hall, Victoria Street.

The highlight of the evening was a multimedia presentation of the history of the society. During the evening, the CSS announced that it is setting up a Graduates' Ministry to cater to the spiritual needs of Catholics who have left NUS, but who wish to have continued spiritual support.

Third-year Arts undergraduate Selene Chan, 21, had this to say about the CSS: "The years in the CSS are truly meaningful, for I have gained a good number of really great friends! " The NUS CSS started out as the Catholic Collegians Society in the then University of Malaya.
